Garden Elements
Hard Landscaping element includes all the patios, walling, pathways, and driveways etc., where foundations or weed retention have to be laid before stoneware can be constructed.
Timber Landscaping element includes Fencing, Trellises, Pergolas and Decks that provide a stable boundary or platform. They are now often used as room dividers which are excellent for segregating seating and those secluded areas round the garden. Timber pergolas provide supports for climbing plants and a shaded zone for dining or relaxing.
Water landscaping include ponds and water features which can be incorporated into the patio foundations or be part of walling from a classic Lion’s head water spout to modern stainless steel water blades to copper bowls that disperses the water into rills or pools. Ponds are great but their careful site position is important not only because of overhanging trees and shrubs that will easily shed leaves and debris into the water, but it is worth remembering that water and children just do not mix, so their positioning is paramount to be safe for children.
Soft Landscaping takes in all the soft elements such as lawns and planting. Before the lawn can be laid it is important that these areas are carefully mapped out so the turf can be ordered and borders can be dug deep so that good quality soil is in situ to give even the hardiest of plants the best start in life. Incorporation within soft landscaping is metal strips to edge lawns where they come into contact with shingled driveways or pathways. Apart from providing an excellent solid visual edge to the lawn it ensures that gravel is not thrown up onto the lawn to damage the lawnmower when cutting the lawn.
Garden Lighting can sometimes be an afterthought, but it is essential to know where cables are to be laid early as they must be installed deep underground. Cables for Pond pumps and filters must have their own circuit and be positioned to provide the best possible water flow, so upfront planning is important. The latest LED Lighting again needs its own cabling and is best laid underground, so identifying cable runs early will save undue frustration and costly cable installing after the garden is completed.
We work with some of the best lighting products from manufactures in the UK and those from abroad. If you have a particular manufacture’s product that you prefer let us know and we will incorporate it in the design. Our web site concentrates upon products from Collingwood Lighting as we find their products are particularly wide, innovative and extremely well made. We have used many of their products, such as bollards, spike lights, wall and pond lights, and their 1 watt LED lighting that can be used round the patio, beneath a pergola or the canopy of the hot spa. All cables for the various lighting must be buried at regulation depths and sized to meet British Standards. Naturally any lighting installation must be installed by a certified electrician.
